One-line pitches
Quotable lines for journalists — drop straight into a piece.
- MathsTutor.me is a UK-curriculum online maths app for children aged 5 to 16, built by a parent who couldn't find one that worked for his own child.
- Most UK maths apps stop at age 13. MathsTutor.me covers the full age range — KS1 reception through GCSE — in one app, with family discounts for siblings.
- Every child gets two free lessons a day, forever — no trial expiry, no credit card to start.
- Where a human tutor costs £25–£45 per hour, MathsTutor.me gives unlimited access for £9.99 a month.
- The app adapts to each child's level in real time, rewarding progress with XP, badges, streaks and levels — making maths feel like a game, not a chore.
Founder story
Short version
MathsTutor.me was built by Jonathan Beresford, a senior software engineer and UK parent, after he couldn't find a maths app that worked for his own child. Existing apps stopped at age 13, locked everything behind time-limited trials, or cost more than a human tutor. He built what he wanted to buy, then opened it up to other families.
Long version
Jonathan Beresford is a senior software engineer who has spent his career building software for other companies. In 2025, his own child needed help with maths beyond what school could offer one-to-one — the same problem millions of UK parents run into around SATs, GCSEs, and the gap between Year 6 and Year 7.
The market gave him three options: human tutors at £30–£45 an hour, apps capped at age 13 that his eldest was about to outgrow, or time-limited free trials that pushed a paid subscription before a parent could tell if the app actually worked for their child.
None of it was good enough. So he spent his evenings and weekends building MathsTutor.me — a single app that covers KS1 all the way through GCSE, aligned to the UK National Curriculum, with a genuine free-forever tier of two lessons a day and family discounts that scale with each additional child.
MathsTutor.me launched in 2026. It runs on Blazor and .NET with Stripe payments, and its adaptive logic is powered by the Claude family of AI models from Anthropic. It is a solo project, built by a parent, for parents.
